Claims clinic set Saturday at VA

BUTLER TWP — The Pittsburgh Regional Office of the Department of Veterans Affairs will have a claims clinic Saturday at the VA Butler Healthcare center on New Castle Road.

The clinic is for veterans, family members, survivors and the public to meet with VA representatives and receive assistance with the claims filing process.

It will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Pittsburgh office is one of 56 in the nation whose focus is on financial benefits for veterans and their families, including disability compensation for service-related injuries, pensions for lower-income disabled and senior citizen veterans and their survivors, as well as education, home loan and life insurance benefits.

Survey planned for Butler County trail

WASHINGTON D.C. — The National Park Service will survey the Washington Trail in Butler County to determine if the trail merits further consideration as a potential part of the National Trails System.

In a statement Thursday, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, of Butler said, “I am wholeheartedly appreciative of the NPS’s decision to conduct a reconnaissance survey of this revered historic trail.

“The trail serves as an exciting bridge to pre-Revolution America and commemorates George Washington’s first military and diplomatic venture. All Western Pennsylvanians should be proud that this special landmark is now one step closer to being officially recognized as a National Historic Trail.”

Kelly in February sent a letter to Jon Jarvis, director of the U.S. Department of the Interior, requesting the survey.
