BUFFALO TWP — A small shopping development may be coming to the township.

Ronald Rukas of Rukas Development LLC is planning a small strip mall at Route 356 at Rambler Drive on 1.73 acres.

“What we’re expecting is a minimall type of structure,” said Joseph Charlton, an attorney representing Rukas.

Charlton said the engineer is finalizing the plan, so he is not sure of the exact size of the structure. He said the building should have two storefronts.

The company is not sure what stores will be there.

“We’re negotiating with a couple of retail outlets,” Charlton said.

The township supervisors voted Monday morning to rezone the property from R-1 residential to B-1, which is for business development. The property used to be three lots, but they were consolidated into one earlier.

Charlton said the B-1 district permits businesses such as restaurants and retail stores.

The company plans to be on the township planning commission agenda at its Aug. 5 meeting at 7:30 p.m. If the commission approves the site plan, it will go to the supervisors. If they approve it, Charlton said construction can begin.

He said there is no timeline for the project, but he said Rukas would like construction to begin as soon as it can, likely before winter.

Township Supervisor John Haven, board chairman, said the development would be a welcome addition to the township.

“That means revenue coming in, and that’s jobs,” Haven said.
