North Catholic football has done its job up to this point.
The Trojans thumped Valley 42-15 to remain undefeated in Allegheny 7 Conference play. And now, with Freeport’s 24-16 upset win of Highlands as well in Week 9, North can win the conference outright next week against those Golden Rams.
Will Waskiewicz had three touchdowns Friday night against the Vikings (2-7, 0-6) on the road, one on a 46-yard punt return, to lead yet another dominant offensive performance. The stud receiver had a pitch handoff for a rushing TD, then capped his night with caught a screen pass and took it 18 yards to the house after that.
Running back Anthony Greene had two rushing TDs from inside the 10-yard line for the Trojans (6-3, 5-0).
A North win next week gives the Trojans the conference title outright. A loss to Highlands (7-2, 4-1) and a Freeport (8-1, 4-1) win over Burrell would create a three-way tie.
Knoch 20, Greensburg Salem 6 — The Knights limited the WPIAL’s most prolific passing game to a single touchdown and improved to 5-4 with the win. Ethan Rouleau had 31 carries for 159 yards for Knoch and recovered a fumble defensively. Max Wiley threw for 100 yards, connecting with Aston Mosby for a 59-yard touchdown pass to extend the Knights’ lead to 14 early in the fourth quarter. Wiley scored Knoch’s first touchdown on a 2-yard run. Carter Beres had 9.5 tackles to lead the Knights defense. Kade Sundie had an interception.
Union/A-C Valley 38, St. Marys 18 — Parker Bish had another big night to keep the Falcon Knights’ playoff hopes alive. The running back caught seven passes for 128 yards and two TDs, and ran 14 times for 96 yards and a score. The first of those touchdowns was a 75-yard catch and run against broken coverage. QB Andrew Kifer was 17 of 24 for 235 yards and three touchdowns, his final scoring toss going to Nick Ielase. UACV (4-5) needs to win next week to make the District 9 Class 1A tournament outright, or the school boards must elect to opt the team in at 4-6.
Norwin 42, Seneca Valley 19 — Jake Donesec’s 91-yard kick return touchdown briefly kept the Raiders (2-7, 0-6 Quad County Conference) in this one, down 14-13 late in the first quarter, to give them hope for their first conference win of the season, but the Knights (5-4, 2-3) outscored SV 28-6 the rest of the way. Quarterback Nico Wheeler was 12 of 37 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, hitting Rory O’Shea twice for 114 yards and a 75-yard TD on the first offensive play for SV. He also hit Josiah Edwards for a 28-yard TD strike.
Montour 55, Mars 18 — Nate Walker threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns on 10 of 25 passing, but three interceptions and running back Archie Collins doomed the Planets. Collins ripped up Mars’ defense for 200 yards and three TDs on 23 touches, as the Spartans (7-2, 3-0 Parkway Conference) turned a 21-10 halftime lead into a rout. Mars (2-7, 0-3) did get one impressive highlight — Kellan Garvin snagged a pass with one outstretched hand and raced for a 71-yard score, his second of the night. He finished with 149 yards receiving on three catches.
Keystone 64, Moniteau 0 — It was a difficult night for the Warriors (4-5) one week after they clinched their first playoff berth since 2018. Ben Prengaman led the run game with 12 carries for 43 yards, and Aiden Shakley had nine carries for 32. The passing game generated negative-3 yards on one completion.
Hickory 56, Slippery Rock 0 — The Rockets were shut out for the third straight week and lost their fifth in a row to fall to 3-6. No stats were provided from this one.
Shenango 65, Summit Academy 6 — The Knights fell to 0-9 (0-6 Big 7 Conference). No stats were provided from this one.
