Two lawsuits filed against convicted nurse Heather Pressdee
Two medical liability lawsuits have been filed against former nurse Heather Pressdee, who is serving three consecutive life sentences in prison for killing and attempting to kill patients at nursing homes in Butler County and surrounding counties.
Praecipes for writs of summons were filed May 22 by Debra Bly, the daughter of James H. Fair, who died Aug. 6 in Quality Life Services — Chicora; and Elmer Allbee, who was treated by Pressdee, and Sarah Allbee.
They also filed praecipes against Chicora Medical Center, which is now known as Quality Life Services.
A praecipe initiates a lawsuit before a complaint is filed. Complaints were not filed as of Monday.
Both suits seek jury trials and damages in excess of $35,000, and were filed by Erie attorney Craig Murphey, who could not be reached for comment Monday.
Quality Life Services declined to comment because the litigation is ongoing.
Pressdee, 41, of Natrona Heights, was sentenced May 2 to serve three consecutive life sentences followed by 380 to 760 years in prison in a plea agreement in which she pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of attempted murder filed by the Attorney General’s office.
She injected patients with lethal doses of insulin or injected air into their intravenous lines to cause an embolism, prosecutors said.
