Police: Butler man assaulted woman with children present
A Butler man is accused of assaulting a woman in front of her children in Fairview Township when she didn’t accept his sexual advances.
State police charged Kyle Manning Mercer, 40, on Friday, July 31, with one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and indecent assault following a July 28 incident on Hooker Road.
Police responded to the home July 30 after receiving new information that the woman began developing bruises that were not present when police responded the night of the incident. Police photographed multiple new bruises to the woman’s legs.
Police said Mercer went to the woman’s house July 28 to do chores then made sexual advances toward her in front of her children. Police said when the woman denied the advances, Mercer followed her upstairs and pushed her into the wall, which also knocked over a small table. Police said Mercer pushed the woman again while upstairs before she hid in the bathroom with her daughter.
After she hid in the bathroom, police said Mercer kicked the door in and pushed the woman into the bathtub while she was in the bathroom with her daughter. The woman then called 911. Police said Mercer continued to punch her while on the phone in front of her daughter.
Mercer is being held in Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Aug. 11 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
