Providing quite an assist
ZELIENOPLE — When it comes to golf in Butler County, the Tourism & Convention Bureau takes the show on the road.
“We know what kind of asset our golf courses are,” said Amy Pack Executive Director of the Bureau. “We go to regional golf shows and represent them.”
The County Tourism & Convention Bureau has set up shop at golf shows in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Columbus and other shows in the region. The organization helps county golf courses put packages together for conventions and other travelers visiting the area.
“Some of the courses put together their own packages, some work with us,” Pack said. “We let people know the different things they can do in the county, recommend hotels and/or set up reservations.
“A lot of people travel here to play our golf courses. They are plentiful and they’re reasonably priced.”
The County Tourism & Convention Bureau works directly with nine courses in the county: Cranberry Highlands, Strawberry Ridge, Hiland, Lake Arthur, Butler Country Club, Conley, Suncrest, Slippery Rock Golf Club & Events Center and Buffalo Golf Course.
“We’ve got every corner of the county covered there,” Pack pointed out.
It’s not just golfers these courses help bring in. Corporate groups and state association meetings also take place in the county, as do weddings that bring people in from out of town.
And many of these people are looking for something to do in their spare time.
“Some of our golf courses have facilities that can host weddings and receptions. They do so quite often,” Pack said. “”Indoor and outdoor ceremonies are available at these facilities.“
A brochure, put together by the County Tourism & Convention Bureau, details many options for weddings and bachelor/bachelorette parties.
“Our golf courses naturally collaborate with each other,” Pack said. “When people come here to play golf, they usually want to play multiple courses. The advantage we have — and our courses have — is there are so many close to each other.
“Some groups coming to town will call us and ask for help. Others will call the courses directly and that’s fine. The important thing is that they’re coming here. And when they experience the quality of our courses, they come back.
“Some conventions, wedding parties, other traveling groups, come in for long weekends. That’s an opportunity for us as a county to show what we have,” Pack added.
