Sewer authority prepares for Hansen Ave. project

Work to coincide with road realignment

BUTLER TWP — When road work begins on Hansen Avenue, members of the Butler Area Sewer Authority hope to see pipe and sewer cap maintenance work take place as well.

The sewer authority board of directors voted to release a request for proposals for the Hansen Avenue and Whitestown Road sewer improvement project at a meeting Tuesday morning, March 12.

Duane McKee, executive director of the Butler Area Sewer Authority, said bids are scheduled to be opened April 2, and replacement should coincide with road work to be performed for Butler Township by Frank J. Zottola Construction.

“We have a number of manhole rehabs on Whitestown, and we’re replacing some main on Hansen Extension,” McKee said. “We’re doing everything we can to align that with the contractor.”

The board also voted Tuesday to hire Fournier Industries to purchase and install filtering elements for the sewer system’s rotary press at a cost of $128,200. According to McKee, the sewer authority has to replace old filters that “went quicker than expected.”
