Stanley Rice
Stanley W. Rice, affectionately known as “Stan the Man,” 84, of Evans City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, while under the care of Allegheny General Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1939, in Evans City, he was the son of the late William Lester Rice and Eve Conway (Dunmire) Rice.
Stan worked as a lumberjack from age 16 to 65 with Smith’s Sawmill of Evans City. He also did part-time janitorial work for Jean's Tavern, up to its transition to T.J.’s Hideaway, until 2020.
Stan was very social and always ran into someone when he went out. He loved the outdoors and spent most of his time there. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and walks in the woods. He was very knowledgeable and happy to teach about different types of plants and wild foliage, from ones that were edible to ones “that would make your hair stand up.” He also loved to talk about trees. His favorite was an old oak.
Stan was a joker and storyteller. He once stopped a running chain saw from hitting him in the face with his bare hand and had the scar to prove it. Stan was also a cancer survivor and survived being hit by a train at a young age with his father. He was loved by many and will forever be remembered and deeply missed.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother, Lester Laverne Rice; the Berry family; many friends; and multiple other relations.
RICE — Private funeral arrangements for Stanley W. Rice, who died Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
