Butler County's great daily newspaper

Shelters should be open around the clock

Where are our tax dollars going in this city we call home — Butler? We are supposed to be a city of churches. But after reading the Butler Eagle from my comfy recliner in my warm home, I wonder what our city could be doing for the homeless.

The Grapevine Shelter is open till 4:30 p.m. according to the article, but Glade Run Shelter doesn’t open until 10 p.m. … so for five and a half hours, these individuals have to fend for themselves and take shelter where they can. According to an article I just read, you can be arrested if you leave an animal out for 30 minutes! What is wrong with this picture?

I cannot figure out why this city and our wonderful elected officials (remember this when it is time to vote) cannot provide funding to keep Glade Run open around the clock. I wish I had the funds to do something myself, but I don’t. This is an outrage and something should be done. Flood anywhere your voice can be heard until something is done to bring the compassion to these fellow citizens to get them out of the cold. They are among you and you most likely don’t even know it. Come on Butler, let me hear you roar!
