U.S. representative’s record does not align with soldiers’ values
With the November election approaching, we need to take a hard look at the values of the candidates running to represent the 16th Congressional District.
As soldiers, we were guided by values that we continue to uphold as veterans. One of those is selfless service — placing the mission and welfare of the soldiers under your command before your own welfare.
Looking at our current representative’s record, we feel it is important to point out what selfless service is not.
- It is not using insider information to which you are privy to purchase stocks.
- It is not trying to invalidate the votes of one’s own constituents.
- It is not taking credit for improvements brought by bills that you voted against (such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.)
- It is not being in line, as a multimillionaire, to receive a nearly $1 million Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan that you don’t have to repay. That “loan” — granted during the COVID-19 pandemic — was paid for by taxpayers.
- It is not voting for a tax bill that overwhelmingly benefits the wealthiest among us.
- And it is not lying to citizens about fraud in elections.
Justin Wagner has been guided by and lived by the value of selfless service. The citizens of the 16th Congressional District deserve to be represented by a person who knows, understands and lives by that value.
As combat veterans who believe in selfless service, we urge you to vote for Justin Wagner.
