Kelly voted to continue war, expand national debt

Thank you for the important article on Oct. 4 (“Newcomer challenges Kelly,” Page A1,) about the candidates for Pa.’s 16th Congressional District.

I read with interest much of what U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly said about his resume. He no doubt has experience and holds important committee positions, but what are the results? Yes, the global market does dictate the price of gas; and yes, the price of gas has gone way over $4/gallon because of our war with Iran. Our government chose to start this war and it is hurting me and it is hurting all Americans.

On Sept. 15, 2026, Kelly voted to continue the war. He did so by voting against a war powers resolution that would have withdrawn our military. Mr. Kelly says he is a fiscal conservative, but his actions, including voting for tax cuts for the wealthy, contradict his claim. Since taking office, Kelly has been a party to growing the national debt from $14 trillion (92.96% of gross domestic product) to $40.3 trillion (124% of GDP).

I sincerely regret to acknowledge that despite his experience and influence, the results have been bad for everyday citizens and our country.

Michael DiMonte,

Cranberry Township
