Thelma Watterson
Thelma Marie Brown Watterson, 88, of Parker, passed away the evening of Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving children.
She was born on Oct. 1, 1935, in Butler County, and was the loving daughter of the late Naomi (Pisor) Brown and late Grover Brown of West Sunbury.
Thelma attended Ridgeville United Methodist Church as a child and later Grace Lutheran Church of Butler. She was a believer of all churches and religions.
Thelma was married to Dale E. Cottrill on Feb. 2, 1953, in Halifax, N.C., and together they had five children: three daughters, Jacque Gombos and her husband, William, of Parker, Judith Fleeger and her husband, Kenneth, of West Sunbury and Diana Waldron and her husband, Mark, of Butler; two sons, Alan E. Cottrill and his wife, Teresa, of Slippery Rock and James Cottrill of West Sunbury; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Edna Pearl (Albert) Lengyel and Eleanora Aiken; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Edward and Lannie Brown; her first husband, Dale E. Cottrill; and her last husband, Ron Watterson.
Thelma was first and foremost a loving mother to her children. Her home was always the center of fun and loving, playful games for all. Thelma worked several part-time jobs over the years while her children were growing up, among them at the VA Hospital of Butler. She then started working for Weyerhaeuser Diaper Factory in Harmony in the ’70s, and retired from there 26 years ago with honors and accolades from the company. Thelma was an accomplished bowler and played in many women’s leagues and mixed leagues and owned a few WIBC achievement awards and trophies.
WATTERSON — Family and friends of Thelma Marie Brown Watterson, who died Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark S. Davis, H.R., of the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial in West Sunbury Union Cemetery will be private.
