Butler County's great daily newspaper

Tipping his cap to decades of volunteers

Since 1952, I have been affiliated as a player, coach, officer and coordinator of park projects at East Butler Baseball.

Our founding fathers began with 60 baseball players from the communities of Summit, Oakland and Clearfield townships and East Butler to enjoy their dreams of playing Little League baseball.

Over the past 72 years, our league has had an impact on thousands of local players.

Most community parents were volunteers who helped to develop the park into a top-quality baseball complex from the ground up! Without their volunteerism the present facilities would not exist.

Our EBBA mission has always been to offer the best baseball complex possible and to provide a program for our local kids regardless of ability or financial status.

It was a total team effort. Volunteers annually held fundraisers and completed major projects to upgrade the baseball complex and park.

Some projects include: two lighting systems and later replaced the bulbs; fencing backstops and dugouts; concession and restrooms; three batting cages and sheds; two press boxes; scoreboards; Little League synthetic turf in 2014 and 2023; asphalt and concrete pads; three parking lots with the three township assistance; 10-foot stone black granite memorial monument which marked the founders and the association’s 50th anniversary; and bought a tractor in 2019.

We sincerely thank all contributors, managers, players, coaches, supervisors from Summit, Oakland and Clearfield townships, residents, county probation group, East Butler councils, East Butler Fire Hall and Firemen, county commissioners and wall contributors for their annual support for over 72 years.

Yours in baseball,

Dess Schnur,

Summit Township
