Authorities report that an Armstrong County man who was in a shootout with police in Allegheny County Dec. 9, died from a self-inflicted shot from his own gun.

Allegheny County Medical Examiner Karl Williams said Monday that the police officer’s .45-caliber gunshots struck 26-year-old Paul Slimick of South Buffalo Township only in his legs, but he died of a wound to his head from his own .38-caliber handgun.

County detectives and local police said an officer responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a Monroeville residence at about 10 p.m. Dec. 9.
