Butler Twp — Dr. Timothy Burke is the new chief of staff at VA Butler Healthcare.

He comes to Butler from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System where he was the vice president of the primary care service line.

He received his medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1996 and completed his primary care internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 1999. He has represented VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and VISN 4 nationally on the National Utilization Management Advisory Committee.

He also is an assistant professor of medicine at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

He is dedicated to the implementation of PACT — Patient-Aligned Care Teams, which is a patient-driven team approach that focuses on VA medical care that is more accessible, continuous and compassionate.

BUTLER TWP — NexTier Bank announced a new board of directors following completion of a capital infusion from the Snyder Group.The new board includes previous directors, Donald Shamey, CEO, NexTier Bank; Margaret Irvine Weir, president, NexTier Bank; Robert Wagner, president, Oberg Industries; and Ralph Hardt, president, Jagemann Stamping Co.Effective April 19, new members are Mark Snyder, chairman and CEO, Sylvan; Richard Krauland, president and CEO, Farmers & Merchants Bank of Western Pa.; and Mark Karenchak, chief financial officer, Snyder Associated Companies.Additionally, NexTier has appointed Robert Gdovic as chief technology officer, and Maria Smathers as vice president of marketing. Geoffrey Skundrich was promoted to chief accounting officer.

CRANBERRY TWP — The Westinghouse Electric Co. has appointed Joe Zwetolitz as vice president, Americas, effective May 2.Zwetolitz will be responsible for project delivery, customer relationships and business development for all product lines in support of the company's Canadian customers. He will also lead the strategy function for the Westinghouse Americas region.Zwetolitz comes to Westinghouse from AREVA NP, where he was senior vice president, North American Reactors and Services Group. He has more than 22 years of experience in the nuclear energy industry. He is a member of the Nuclear Power Advisory Board for Penn State University, from which he graduated with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. He holds a master's in business administration from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va.He will be located at the company's Cranberry Township headquarters.

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College will host two information sessions on online training for medical careers at 2 and 6 p.m. April 28 at the Public Safety Training Facility, Room 202, Main Campus.The sessions will offer details on training at home for careers in medical transcription, medical coding and billing, or as a pharmacy technician or medical administrative assistant. Programs take as little as three months.Those who enroll by June 30 will receive a free laptop or textbooks. SEVEN FIELDS — A new Jazzercise Fitness Center has opened at 671 Castle Creek Drive.As part of the center's opening, new members can join for May, June and July at a reduced cost.Jazzercise instructor Linda Cunningham said, “We can now offer our customers a great workout in a brand new fitness center and expand our class offerings.”A 60-minute Jazzercise class offers a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and Latin-style movements set to a variety of popular music. Each class includes a warm-up, high energy aerobic routines, muscle toning and cool down segment for people of all ages and fitness levels.

READING — Boscov's Department Store LLC has announced the appointment of Jim Boscov as vice chairman of the company.It has a store in the Clearview Mall in Center Township.Boscov has more than 30 years of retail experience. He started his career at Boscov's in 1975 as an assistant store manager and moved on to various departments throughout his career.He is a graduate of Tufts University.Albert Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov's, said that with this appointment “we're gratified that Boscov's will remain a family business.“While I have no plans to retire, I want to assure our co-workers and business partners, that Boscov's will remain Boscov's for many years to come.”

A Butler Eagle staff writer has been honored in a statewide newspaper contest.Paula Grubbs, a reporter in the Eagle's Cranberry Township bureau, received an honorable mention for general news nondaily in the annual Keystone Press Awards contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association.She was recognized for her story about an Adams Township man who became critically ill after drinking unpasteurized raw milk.Her honor came in the category for nondaily newspapers with a circulation of more than 10,000, which includes the Cranberry Eagle.It will be presented at the group's annual meetings in State College, May 20-21.
