One may ask why the attack by Hamas? Of course, there is the battle between the Arab Muslim world and the Jewish state. But what long-term goal could Hamas really hope to accomplish?

By making the incursion into Israel as evil, heinous and brutal as possible — and by making sure much of it was captured on video — they have accomplished an important goal: worldwide media coverage. Hamas understands that the demand for “the latest” news will work in their favor.

They knew Israel would have no choice but to make an immediate large-scale military response to exact just revenge. Hamas also knows the shock of the initial attack will fade away in a few days. Instead, the worldwide news will have to focus on the longer-term suffering of those innocent civilians in Palestine who have nowhere to run.

Hamas’ hope is that coverage of this will so enrage Palestinian supporters that they will rise up, as one, to eliminate the Jewish state. Even now there are demonstrations in New York, India, London and most all Arab countries insisting Israel be stopped from invading Palestine.

Hamas understands they will be hunted down and killed by the Israeli military. However, these are Jihadist Muslim terrorists. They are willing to make this sacrifice if it leads to the destruction of the Jewish state. They are counting on media reporting and the short-term memories of the citizens of the world to lead to this end.
