A vote to keep Slippery Rock’s flag
Some candidates running for Slippery Rock Borough council, if elected, want to put a noise ordinance in place that will cause the removal of our American flag from the park.
Their main goal appears to be taking down the flag — not because it is loud. A noise measurement was taken that showed the flag makes below the 100+ decibels some claim it does.
Old Glory was paid for by donations from the hardworking citizens of Slippery Rock — citizens who wanted the flag there as a symbol of pride in our country, state and community. My husband and I are happy to say we contributed.
The stars of the American flag stand for each state, and the stripes for the 13 colonies that earned our freedom from Great Britain. Pennsylvania was one of those colonies, and we who live here should be proud of that. Why is the flag really being attacked by these candidates? Does the flag of our free nation offend them? What else will they silence?
I urge all who live in the borough, regardless of party affiliation, to please vote to keep our flag flying on Nov. 7. We paid for it, not the council candidates who want it removed.
