Man accused of punching BMH nurse, police said
A Butler man was accused of punching a nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital and having to be restrained by medical staff last weekend, according to Butler Township police.
Joseph V. Mackalica, 52, was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment after an incident Oct. 6 in the emergency wing of the hospital.
Police said a nurse reported she was punched in the face by Mackalica. The nurse’s left cheekbone was swollen and bruised when they arrived, documents showed.
Another nurse witnessed the incident, according to documents. A doctor took Mackalica to the ground and restrained him after the alleged assault, police said. Documents showed the doctor suffered scratches on his neck from the incident.
Mackalica’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
