Slippery Rock’s Halloween parade draws an impressive, costumed crowd
SLIPPERY ROCK — The community came out in droves for the borough’s annual Halloween Parade Saturday evening.
The event, organized by the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and co-sponsored by the borough’s Rotary Club, featured the Slippery Rock High School Marching Band.
The band led the parade, starting at the intersection of E. Cooper and Main Streets, joined by many in the crowd.
A variety of costumes were donned by visitors this year, ranging from inflatable dinosaurs and chickens to iconic characters such as Buzz Lightyear and Spiderman.
Some folks tossed candy from North Country Brew Pub’s patio area and also from other sections along the parade.
The parade concluded at the Volunteer Fire Company’s building, where volunteers distributed candy.
“It's a good turnout,” said Michael Boone, president of the fire rescue, about Saturday’s event. “The marching band has been excellent.”
He said an event of this sort is a good community outreach opportunity for the borough’s firefighters.
“It’s one of our things where we reach out to the community so they can see our faces, and we can talk to them,” said Boone. “That way, when we show up when they're having a hard time, they can recognize our faces, and that helps calm them down a little bit more.”
