Second man charged in Wednesday police chase in Butler

Police find additional drugs in vehicle Thursday

A second Sharon man has been charged following a Wednesday, Oct. 28, police chase through Butler, where the driver, also of Sharon, is accused of exceeding 50 mph in the city while in possession of controlled substances.

Antoine Taraun Maurus Baker, 29, was charged Thursday, Oct. 29, by Butler police with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver controlled substances; one felony count of criminal conspiracy; and one misdemeanor count of evading arrest following the Wednesday night chase.

The driver of the vehicle, Christian Anthony Fonteboa, 22, was charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances; one felony count each of fleeing police and criminal conspiracy; and one misdemeanor count each of resisting arrest, evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

Police said the Jeep fled the traffic stop and traveled west. The vehicle then crossed the Wayne Street bridge while traveling faster than 50 mph.

Police conducted a traffic stop just before midnight Wednesday on a Jeep owned by Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The traffic stop was conducted on Lincoln Avenue after police said the vehicle had recently left a home associated with drug trafficking.

Officers followed the vehicle around the city, including down one-way roads, until it stopped in the parking lot of Sunnyside dispensary, where Fonteboa and Baker fled on foot. The vehicle pursuit spanned about 2.4 miles, police said.

Police said both men were shocked by a Taser during the incident. Fonteboa was found with 6.9 grams of suspected powder cocaine and 6.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

County Chief Detective Doug Brink said his office executed a search warrant on the vehicle Thursday and found an additional 15 grams of cocaine and related paraphernalia.

Baker is being held in Butler County Prison on a $100,000 bail, and Fonteboa is being held on a $200,000 bail. Preliminary hearings for the men have been scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Nov. 16 in front of Judge William Fullerton.
