Neal

Kathryn R. (Kit) Neal, 95, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 31, 1928, in Greensburg, Pa., to the late William Stephenson and Irene (Ritenour) Stephenson.

Kathryn was a home economics teacher for various school districts for 38 years. Her last 22 years were spent at Hampton School District. She was a member of the Literary Club in Butler, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading. Kathryn was a member of the University Women's Association. She was also a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church.

Kit is survived by one son, Jeffrey W. Neal of Lake Worth Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Kathryn (Kitty) Shields and her husband, Rustin, of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson, Jon Ross Shields; and one brother, William S. Ruffner of Greensburg, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M. Wayne Neal, whom she married on Feb. 14, 1953, and who passed away Aug. 8, 2000; and three sisters.

NEAL — There will be no public visitation for Kathryn R. (Kit) Neal, who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023.

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler, with Pastor B.T. Gilligan of Nixon United Methodist Church.

Burial will take place at Brownsdale Cemetery.
