The Rev. Francis A. Majda, 96, of Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh died Friday morning at his home.

Born July 8, 1912, in McKeesport, he was the son of Lucy Bush and Walenty Majda.

Ordained June 3, 1939, at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, he served as assistant pastor at St. Mary in New Kensington from 1939 to 1941, as vicar econome at St. Martin in New Derry from 1941 to 1942, and as an assistant at Holy Family in Lawrenceville from 1942 to 1953 and as an assistant at Sacred Heart in Braddock from 1953 to 1954.

The Rev. Majda was pastor of the St. Stanislaus in Lyndora, where he served from 1954 until 1964, when he became pastor of SS Philip & James in New Castle for 24 years before retiring in 1989.

He was a former Butler Deanery chairman for the Catholic Charities office, a judge on the Diocesan Tribunal for 23 years and was a trustee for the Clergy Benefit Plan.

He attended Duquesne University, St. Vincent Seminary and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his doctorate.

Surviving are his two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

<B>MAJDA — </B>Friends of the Rev. Francis A. Majda, who died Friday, July 13, 2007, will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the S.S.Philip & James Catholic Church in New Castle. A mass of translation will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday prior to the visitation, with the Rev. Philip Ferrell officiating. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Most Rev. Bishop Paul J. Bradley officiating.
