Fire victims stay with family
LANCASTER TWP — Jerry Brown spent Wednesday salvaging what he could from his destroyed property following a fire at his family’s mobile home.
The structure went up in flames around 6 p.m. Tuesday and took firefighters more than three hours to extinguish. Officials on the scene blamed the fire on a wood-burning stove.
Early Wednesday morning, Brown was sifting through the charred remains of his home and spent hours with his father surveying the property.
However, Brown also spent a portion of the morning helping out a neighbor who got his car stuck in the mud and ice that caked Brown’s driveway.
That neighbor, a man named Don who didn’t give his last name, got stuck in the same tire tracks made hours earlier when a fire truck got stuck in the same spot.
“I came up here just to be neighborly and to see everyone is OK,” the neighbor said. “And now they’re the ones helping me.”
Brown said almost the entire dwelling, which consisted of two mobile homes, was destroyed. He planned on driving down to Cranberry Township later in the day to buy necessities like clothes.
“The most important part is that nobody got hurt,” he said, looking at the charred mobile home.
Brown said he’s lived at the property for 24 years. He and his two adult sons will temporarily stay with Brown’s parents, who live further down the hill along East Lancaster Road.
