Helen Sheptak-Smaretsky
Helen Sheptak-Smaretsky, 83, of Butler died Tuesday at her home.
Born Feb. 11, 1923, in Bredinville, Butler Township, she was a daughter of Frank and Josephine Onufrak Sheptak.
She was a homemaker and had been a seamstress at the Spaide Shirt Factory.
Mrs. Smaretsky was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was known for her great smile, her heart of gold, welcoming everyone into her home and for her kind words for everyone.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth J. and Donald D. Smaretsky, both of Butler, and James E. Smaretsky of Painesville, Ohio; a daughter, Karen E. Smaretsky-Vavro and her husband, Phillip A. Vavro, of Butler; five grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick) O'Neill of Philadelphia, James "Jamie" (Stacey) Smaretsky Jr. of Mentor, Ohio, Todd (Sonia) Smaretsky of Long Beach, Calif., and Michael and Bryan Vavro, both of Butler; and three great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Madeline and Mia Smaretsky
She also is survived by a brother, Nick Sheptak of Butler, and a sister, Margaret Sheptak of Lyndora.
Her husband, John Smaretsky, whom she married Dec. 21, 1941, died May 7, 1986. She also was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
<B>Smaretsky </B>— Friends of Helen Sheptak-Smaretsky, who died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. Dennis Bogda will officiate.
