Another accused of passing counterfeit bills at Cranberry Township stores
Another man has been charged with being part of a group that attempted to use thousands of dollars of counterfeit bills at Cranberry Township stores last month.
The group, which includes the recently accused Meliek F. Garland, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., operated across several states, according to charges filed by township police Tuesday, Aug. 1.
Police said the group would make purchases with counterfeit bills in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Virginia and exchange the items in different states for legitimate currency.
Garland was charged with felonies corrupt organizations, conspiracy, forgery and theft, following charges against Dahnty D. Munroe and Christopher. K. Aiken, also of New York, in connection to the same incidents.
Police said Garland was present when the group attempted to pass $1,550 in counterfeit bills at Best Buy on July 7.
The group also traveled to Lowe’s in Cranberry and later Target in Ross Township, Allegheny County, attempting to pass counterfeit bills or make fraudulent returns, police said.
Garland’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
