Kildoo

Lloyd L. Kildoo, 70, of Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, died peacefully on Saturday at his home with his family at his side.

He was born on the farm where he lived on Oct. 31, 1939, the son of the late S. Lloyd and Helen R. (McConnell) Kildoo.

Lloyd was married to the former Bonnie Jean Thomas of Beaver Falls on July 13, 1979, at the Imperial Shrine Convention in Minneapolis, Minn., by the Imperial Shrine chaplain. Bonnie Jean preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2008.

Lloyd was a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania and in Florida. He owned and operated the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Homes of Zelienople and of Cranberry Township, as well as the Caskey-Kildoo Funeral Home of New Castle (Mahoningtown) until 1980. He was licensed for 48 years with his partners being William S. Caskey of New Castle, and R. Carl Glenn and Patrick J. Boylan, both of Zelienople.

Lloyd also owned and operated Springdale Farms since 1973. The 100-acre farm has been in the Kildoo family since 1860.

Lloyd was a director of the ESB Bank and Holding Co., since 1986 where he served as chairman of the audit committee, chairman of THF Inc. Title and Closing Co., and a member of the bank's compensation and executive committees. He was president of the Mahoning Consumer Discount Co. of New Castle, where he served on the executive committee since 1971.

Lloyd was a member of the Lodge of Craft Westminster 433 of New Castle since 1963 and a dual member of Harmony Lodge 429 of Zelienople. He was a member of the Syria Shrine Temple in Pittsburgh where he was illustrious potentate in 1980.

Being a charter member of the Syria Shrine Temple Motor Corps, he was a member and past president of Lawrence Caravan 15. Noble Kildoo was a past president of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association, bringing the last Shrine Convention to Pittsburgh in 1986. He also was a member of the Bahia Shrine Temple, the Osceola County Shrine Club and the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 166, all of Orlando, Fla.

Lloyd was a member of the Valley of New Castle Consistory A.A.S.R., Delta Royal Arch Chapter 170, Hiram Council 45, the Lawrence Commandery 62 and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forrest 144, all of New Castle.

He was a 40-year member of the Zelienople Lions Club and a member of the Cranberry Elks Lodge 2249 B.P.O.E., the Condor Aero Flying Club of Zelienople, the Harmony Moose Lodge 957 and Challenges, a retirement facility in New Castle.

Lloyd was a member of St. Peter's Reformed Church, Zelienople, for more than 40 years where he served as deacon, elder, consistory president and secretary. He was also a member of the Westfield Presbyterian Church of New Castle where he was a trustee, elder and church treasurer.

In his later years, he attended the Harlansburg Presbyterian Church.

Lloyd graduated from Laurel High School, Class of 1957, attended Slippery Rock State College and Youngstown University, and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic to an artillery battalion stationed in Fort Dix, N.J., and Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

He is survived by two sons, Samuel Lloyd Kildoo (Kristi) and James Lewis Kildoo (Tiffany), and his farm manager, Bruce L. Drotleff (Karen), all of Lawrence County; two sisters, Dorothy Williams (John) of Adrian, and Marylou Frazier of New Castle; and eight grandchildren, Megan, Shelby, Ashlyn, Joshua, Kyle, Makenzie Ann and Lana Jean Kildoo, and Emily Drotleff, all of Lawrence County.
