Police: Man charged with spitting on police, flooding holding cell
A Butler man was arrested Wednesday, June 7, after police said he attempted to take a woman’s dog and presented another woman with a kitchen knife amid a series of alleged incidents along Locust Street.
Police said Troy Whitmire, 26, later spit on an officer and flooded his holding cell at the Butler County Prison.
City police charged Whitmire with felonies aggravated assault and robbery, misdemeanor resisting arrest and summaries harassment, public drunkenness and criminal mischief as a result of the alleged events.
According to documents, police were dispatched to a disturbance on Locust Street around 9:30 p.m. where they observed Whitmire arguing with several people in the street.
One witness told police Whitmire approached her on her porch and attempted to take her Chihuahua from her hands. The witness said she was able to kick Whitmire away.
Another woman told police Whitmire knocked on her door and presented her with a kitchen knife. Police said Whitmire asked the woman to hold the knife, and when she refused, he grabbed her by the hair. The woman was able to get away, documents showed.
Police said Whitmire showed signs of impairment and was speaking nonsensically.
Police said Whitmire attempted to walk away while being interviewed on scene. Documents showed an officer grabbed Whitmire’s wrist and advised him to stay, but he continued to resist.
Whitmire refused to comply with officer orders but was able to be handcuffed, police said.
Whitmire continued attempts to break free from officers and move toward people he was arguing with and eventually was taken to the ground, documents showed.
Police said Whitmire spit on a patrol vehicle. Two officers forced him into the car, where Whitmire spit throughout the inside, the affidavit showed.
Whitmire also spit on the arresting officer through the open window of the patrol vehicle, according to charging documents.
Police said Whitmire continued spitting when placed inside a holding cell at the Butler station. He then stripped himself of his clothes and announced he was going to flood the cell.
Whitmire then splashed water from the toilet and repeatedly flushed it, flooding the cell, charging documents showed.
Police said it would cost $300 to clean the patrol vehicle and the holding cell.
Whitmire is in Butler County Prison in lieu of $30,000.
Whitmire’s preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton is scheduled Monday, June 19.
