BUTLER TWP — The new ALDI grocery store, 196 Bon Air Plaza, opened Wednesday, but its grand opening is today.

“We’re showing off the look of our new stores,” said Nathan Reed, director of operations with ALDI.

Reed said the store offers the same ALDI-brand products as its older stores, but said the colors, graphics and other displays inside the market are different.

Reed said the Butler store is the first of 10 to open in the Pittsburgh region over the next several months. The store replaced the former Bottom Dollar Food store that closed earlier this year.

The new store has 12 to 15 employees, Reed said.

Another ALDI store is in Butler Commons on New Castle Road. It operates nearly 1,400 stores in 32 states.

[naviga:h3]Rural King store sets grand opening[/naviga:h3]

CENTER TWP — The Clearview Mall’s new anchor store will hold a grand opening next month.

Rural King, an Illinois-based farm supply store, will begin a three-day grand opening event on Aug. 20 with a ribbon cutting that morning, according to Robert Ridley, store manager.

There will be a Portersville Steam Antique Tractor Show at the store from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 20 to 22.

Chain-saw artist Ken Tynan, one of the organizers of the Butler Chainsaw Festival, will be there Aug. 22.

The store sells items such as livestock feed, farm equipment, agricultural parts, lawn mowers, workwear, fashion clothing, housewares and toys.

The 107,000-square-foot store has 75 employees.

It replaced the York-based Bon Ton, which closed last year.

PHILADELPHIA — Federal authorities say IKEA is offering a free wall anchoring kit for dressers and chests that officials say can pose a tip-over hazard if not secured to a wall.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Ikea North America of Conshohocken on Wednesday announced the repair program for products including MALM 3- and 4-drawer chests and two styles of MALM 6-dresser chests.

Authorities said IKEA received reports of the deaths of two children after chests tipped over onto them.

Consumers are urged not to use IKEA children’s chests and drawers taller than 23½ inches and adult chests and drawers taller than 29½ inches unless they are securely anchored to the wall.

[naviga:h3]Exploratory drilling in Arctic wins OK[/naviga:h3]

SEATTLE — Royal Dutch Shell received final approval from the Obama administration Wednesday to begin exploratory drilling for oil in the Arctic this summer, but with new restrictions that will alter the company’s plans.

Shell, which has faced complications and challenges from environmentalists for years as it has pursued drilling in the Arctic, received initial government approval in May.

The company could begin preparatory work as early as next week, but the new limitations will delay when it can drill in areas that contain oil.
