Water main breaks in Butler
Crews work to repair a broken water main Monday on Cunningham Street.
About 20 Butler residents were without water Monday morning and into the afternoon during the repair process. Service was restored at 10 p.m. Cunningham Street, between Pillow and Chestnut streets, was closed during the repairs. The road reopened about 2 a.m. today. The water came from a ruptured 12-inch, cast-iron water main that was about 100 years old and at the end of its useful life, said Gary Lobaugh, Pennsylvania American Water spokesman. The road will be resurfaced by the company’s contractor when a date is cleared by the city.
