More money for fireworks

Pa. American gives $4,000

Butler will have a larger than normal fireworks show this year thanks to another donation.

Pennsylvania American Water has donated $4,000 for the July 4 show. This comes on the heels of an $11,000 donation from Peoples TWP.

Last week, Mayor Tom Donaldson said at a joint meeting of the city and Butler Township that the city could not pay for the annual show this year. Peoples TWP stepped up since then, followed by Pennsylvania American.

The fireworks are scheduled for after a Butler BlueSox baseball game at Kelly Automotive Park on July 4, just as it was last year. Zambelli Fireworks again will organize the show.

The fireworks show cost $11,000 the past two years, and Zambelli agreed to do the show again this year for $11,000.

Donaldson hopes to set up a fireworks account fund for the city to have money for fireworks in the future. Setting up the fund with the $4,000 donation was not considered because Pennsylvania American, which helps out with the show every year, wanted the money to be used for this year’s show.

So, the money will be used to bulk up the show.

“We’re going to have a larger show,” Donaldson said.

He said that it is great that these two companies are helping to keep the show alive.

Gary Lobaugh, external affairs manager for Pennsylvania American, said the sponsorship helps the company have a positive impact on the area.

“The sponsorship represents an opportunity for the company to support the city, family fun and patriotism,” Lobaugh said.
