American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora has been selected to host the National Commanders Dinner Tour on March 14.

The Lyndora post members will host a testimonial dinner, and celebrate National Commander Paul A. Morin, as well as Pennsylvania Commander George Junkerman,

The Lyndora post was picked by American Legion members in the state to be the host location for Western Pennsylvania.

"It's a very prestigious honor,"Post Adjutant Don Steffan said.

The dinner is open to everyone at the cost of $25. For ticket information, call Post Adjutant DonSteffan, 724-287-3022. The Lyndora post is located at 150 Legion Memorial Lane.

Butler County Community College will host an open forum for the nursing program from 3 to 3:30 p.m. March 7 on the main campus as part of its accreditation visit.The meeting will be in the Lawson Board Room on the top floor of the Administration Building. Individuals may comment on the program as it undergoes its periodic review.BC3's nursing program is fully accredited by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.The commission will review the program March 6-8.

The Mercer Road Volunteer Fire Department will get a $62,700 grant, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced.Mercer is among 211 fire departments getting $19.2 million grants in the first phase of Homeland Security's Fiscal Year 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, a news release said."Additional phases will soon be announced that will total $485 million in grant awards to about 5,000 fire-related organizations nationwide," the release said.Homeland Security got more than 18,000 grant applications, the release said.
