Zelienople Airport project gets $2.24M
Zelienople Airport Authority has been awarded a $2.24 million state grant to realign a portion of state Route 288 in Franklin Township, Beaver County.
The grant, awarded through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, will straighten the road to improve sight lines and safety, state Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-10th, said in a press release on Friday.
The project is part of an expansion at the airport that will include demolishing old hangars, building about three dozen new hangars of different sizes, and expanding available jet services at the facility.
The expansion also includes extending the airport’s runway from 4,933 feet to 5,565 feet, and widening it to bring it into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Gibbons said the expansion project would create 60 jobs at the airport, which owns more than 400 acres inside and outside of its gates, including recent purchases from the state Fish and boat Commission.
