Meth drug bust at Fairview Township traffic stop leads to charges

State police charged the passenger of a vehicle where 70 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other drugs were found during a traffic stop last week in Fairview Township.

Michael J. Hirschfield II, 36, of Parker, was charged with felony drug sales and misdemeanor use and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to documents filed Monday, April 17.

A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Chicora Road and Kittanning Pike at 2:49 a.m. Thursday, April 13.

Police said the vehicle was traveling at a slow speed. Steven M. Amon II, 50, was driving, and police said they observed him to have pinpoint pupils, which can be caused by certain drugs.

The vehicle’s passenger was identified as Hirschfield. He was found to have an active warrant out of Allegheny County, and he was placed under arrest during the stop.

Police said Amon gave consent for a vehicle search. Officers recovered 70 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 40 stamp bags of suspected fentanyl, suspected marijuana and THC gummies, suspected crack cocaine, four cellphones, additional SIM cards, and 10 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition.

Two concealable magnetic boxes also were discovered, and police said a search of those recovered a black scale, red straw residue, 18 small glassine bags and a black dash camera.

A preliminary hearing for Hirschfield in this case has not yet been scheduled.

Amon was charged last week with felony drug sales and misdemeanors driving under the influence and use and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to the case. His preliminary hearing will resume May 2.
