PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Day of Giving has been rescheduled to Sept. 21.

The initial Day of Giving, a day where people could donate to charities and have part of their donations matched by the Endowment of Butler County, was May 3.

However, it was cut short when Kimbia, a Texas-based crowdfunding company managing the event, had technical issues that disrupted website-based donations.

Because of this, most organizations, including the 51 participating in Butler County, fell short in their fundraising goals.

Amy Beiler, advisory board president of the endowment, said endowment board members will discuss whether or not they will participate in the Sept. 21 Day of Giving.

“We’re going to have to gather ourselves and make a decision,” she said.

The Day of Giving will be managed by CiviCore, a Denver-based firm with 15 years of experience managing large giving day events.

The money already was donated to the Butler organizations has been distributed, said Christopher Whitlach, foundation manager of marketing and communications.

All of the organizations that participated in the May 3 Day of Giving are entered into the system for Sept. 21. They were notified of the new date and told that if they don’t want to participate they’ll be removed.

“Anyone who wants to be in can be in again,” Whitlach said. “New organizations can sign up.”

The organizations also are being invited to workshop sessions to be introduced to CiviCore.

The foundation will not have a definite number of Butler organizations that will participate until Aug. 26, which is the deadline for organizations to register.

“While our foundation and many other community foundations across the country sponsoring the May 3 event were not responsible for the technical failures that occurred, we all feel a deep responsibility to ensure a smooth second run that will be successful for participants,” said Maxwell King, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Foundation, in a news release.

“We look forward to providing an event that is worthy of the record-setting generosity and caring spirit that has been a hallmark of the Day of Giving program since its beginning.”
