Woman charged with DUI
MIDDLESEX TWP — A township woman with five prior drunken driving arrests was more than three times over the legal limit last month when she rear-ended another vehicle, police said.
Township police on Thursday charged 50-year-old Glynis R. Griffith with driving under the influence stemming from the Dec. 23 wreck on Route 228 west at Route 8.
The occupants in the other vehicle told police they were stopped on Route 228 at a red light shortly before 9 p.m. when Griffith’s car struck them from behind, according to court documents. No one was apparently hurt.
Police said another witness reported seeing Griffith weaving in traffic and nearly hit another vehicle on Mars Valencia Road and Route 228 before the crash.
Griffith failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. A toxicology report showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent.
In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.
Butler County court records showed Griffith was previously arrested for DUI five times between 1990 and 2011.
Following most of those arrests, she was admitted into the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program — a pretrial disposition that is an alternative to a conviction.
