Elmer J. Green
Elmer J. Green, 92, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Carbon Center, he was a son of the late Alphons and Bertha Kennedy Green.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. A member of the 375th Air Wing, he was a radio operator on a B-29 aircraft.
He worked for 17 years at the Magnetics plant in East Butler, and then he worked for 26 years as a quality assurance representative for the U.S. Government, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville.
As a child, he grew up singing in the boys' choir of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He moved on to the St. Peter men's choir, eventually spending a total of 50 years singing in St. Peter Church.
He was very active in sports.
Elmer was a life member of the RC Mens Club. He belonged to the Elks Lodge of Butler and the Elks Chorus, the Herman Volunteer Fire Co. and the Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by three sons, Alphons Green and his wife, Carol, of Butler, Stephen Green of Butler and John Green and his wife, Shirley, of Butler; one daughter, Marianne Versprille and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, Lauren Leizear (Christopher), Allyson Versprille, Robert Versprille III, Jamie (Christopher) DeFalco, Katelin (Brandon) Lias, Jonathan (Emily) Green and Elizabeth Green; two great-granddaughters, Emma Lias and Norah Green; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Pelliccione Green, who passed away April 19, 1984; a son, Timothy Green; two brothers; five sisters; and one grandson.

Green, who died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.The Women's Council of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church will meet at 10:35 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday from St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with the Rev.
