Leslie F. "Les" McMurdy, 64, of Harrisville, formerly of Franklin, died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday at the residence of his brother in Harrisville, where he resided for the last six months.

Born in Belleview, Aug. 18, 1944, he was the son of Robert W. McMurdy and Roberta F. (Weeter) McMurdy.

A 1962 graduate of Rocky Grove High School, he was a heavy equipment operator and worked for his brother, the owner of McMurdy Excavating of Harrisville, for more than 35 years.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a former member of the Harrisville Deer Hunters' Association and a life member of the American Trap Association.

He served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1970 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a sergeant first class lineman and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award.

Surviving are a daughter, Bethany Alice McMurdy of Polk; his first ex-wife, Charlene Woolstrum of Grove City, who helped care for him over the past year; two sisters, Patricia Hughes and her husband, Walter, of Elbridge, N.Y., and Joelyn Yurchisin of Bowling Green, Ky.; and three brothers, Jerry A. McMurdy and his wife, Alice, of Harrisville, the Rev. Paul D. McMurdy and his wife, Cheryl, of Lancaster and Frederick R. McMurdy and his wife, Nina, of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sheriden McMurdy.

<B>MCMURDY </B>— Friends of Leslie F. "Les" McMurdy, who died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with his brother, the Rev. Paul D. McMurdy, a retired minister, officiating. Burial will be at the Harmony Cemetery, Harrisville.Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisville Deer Hunters' Association, Eau Claire Road, Harrisville, PA 16038.
