Claire Patterson

Claire Patterson, a sixth-grader in the Knoch School District, was notified by Appelley Publishing, that her poem, "The Color of Your Eyes" will be published in its 2023 Rising Stars Collection.

Claire entered Appelley Publishing National Poetry Contest through her Discovering Literature course. Not only will Claire's poem be published, it also is entered in the national contest. She has a chance to win $500 if her poem is chosen in the grades six to eight category. Winners will be announced April 7.

Several Mars Area High School students were selected by solo audition for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Chorus Festival Jan. 11 to 13 at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School.

Students are seniors Madalyn Gribble (alto 2), Victoria Rojas (alto 2) and Kole Yingling (bass 1); and juniors Nicholas Ferrari (bass 2), Miranda Gehm (soprano 1) and Isabela Montes (alto 1). Ryan Beeken, Blaire County Concert Chorale artistic director and Indiana University of Pennsylvania director of choral activities, will serve as guest conductor.
