Freeport schools sale OK'd
KITTANNING — An Armstrong County Judge on Thursday approved the sale of the buildings that used to be Freeport Junior High School and Freeport Kindergarten Center.
The buildings, both in Freeport Borough, were sold to developer Ronald Mailki for $175,000. They were appraised at $164,000.
The sale was approved by Judge Kenneth Valasek, according to Larry Robb, Freeport School District program director.
Robb said he hopes the sale will close next week.
Mailki plans to turn the kindergarten center into a day care center and professional or medical offices.
The plans for the junior high school include converting some of the building into townhouses while keeping the auditorium, gym and cafeteria available to the public for rent.
The playground equipment at the kindergarten center, which was installed five years ago after a $50,000 donation from the Parent Teacher Organization, will remain with the building.
