Meet Butler County’s top boys tennis players, athlete of the year from 2025 season

North Catholic’s Justin Garvey was the lone Butler County boys tennis player this season to make the PIAA singles tournament and led the Trojans to a state team tournament berth. Justin Guido/Special to the Eagle

For four straight years, North Catholic’s boys tennis team exited the PIAA Class 2A Team Tennis Championships early.

In Year 5, that streak ended with a first-round win.

The Trojans completed arguably their best season in program history with a quarterfinal appearance, led by this year’s Butler Eagle player of the year Justin Garvey, who was the only Butler County representative in the PIAA singles tournament. North also captured the WPIAL team championship.

Garvey headlines this year’s Butler Eagle boys tennis all-stars after hauling in several individual and team medals. Here are this year’s all-county athletes, from player of the year to first team (listed alphabetically) and honorable mentions:

Justin Garvey, jr., North Catholic

Garvey put together one of the better seasons in the program’s recent history, claiming silver in the WPIAL Class 2A singles tournament and qualifying for the PIAA championships, where he lost in the first round. The only butler County athlete to make states, Garvey finished 20-6 this season and won the WPIAL Section 3-2A singles title. He also led North Catholic to a WPIAL team crown and the PIAA quarterfinals, where it lost to eventual runner-up Conrad Weiser.

Bocci was a consistent presence at the top of the Golden Tornado’s roster as their Singles 1 all four years he was on varsity. He’s been with the team five years if you count eighth grade when he was the team manager. He made the WPIAL Class 3A doubles tournament two straight years, this season with junior Ryan Conaway. Bocci also made the WPIAL sectional quarterfinals. He’ll play at Grove City College next year.

Alex Lopez Foubert

Lopez Foubert made up the other half of a doubles pairing, with Alex Weber (more on him in a moment), that made the WPIAL doubles tournament by beating Quaker Valley for third in the section tournament. A team captain, Lopez Foubert went 17-5, mostly in Singles 3, and helped the Trojans make the state team tournament.
