Sloan

Ralph Edward Sloan, 90, of Evans City died early Tuesday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 21, 1917, in Connoquenessing Township, he was the son of Harry Harrison and Clara Mae Shiever Sloan.

He first worked for 25 years at the Shiever's Feed Mill, formerly in Prospect, and then had various jobs including working for Connoquenessing Township. He retired after working for 18 years at Halstead-Mitchell, where he was a draw bench machine operator.

He was also a U.S. Army Veteran.

Mr. Sloan was a member of the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, where he had been a trustee, elder, custodian and a Sunday school superintendent.

He also was a trustee and the care taker of the Mt. Nebo Cemetery for years before passing it on to his grandsons.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping. He was a woodworker and his designs included replica trains, wagons, planes, trucks and houses.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Shirley Bieber of Evans City; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cheryl Sloan of Butler; six grandchildren, Randy Bieber of Butler, Ella Heathcote of Connoquenessing, Tim Bieber of Evans City, Nancy Reno of Valencia, Rodney Sloan of Butler and Tara Seaton of East Butler; 10 great-grandchildren, Gordon and Dezmen Bieber, Christopher, Michael and Nicholas Martinkovich, Autumn, Cheyenne, Rory, and Roland Sloan and Alexia Seaton; six sisters, Margaret "Peg" Fassinger of Evans City, Ruth Spack of Refrew, Ethel Kradel of Renfrew, Mabel Giles of Meadville, Beryl Gilliland of Evans City and Jean Oesterling of Meridian; two brothers, Lawrence Sloan of Evans City and Robert Sloan of Meridian; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Mae Mathews Sloan, who died June 11, and they had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 28; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; and an infant sister.

<B>Sloan — </B>Friends of Ralph Edward Sloan, who died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>edward l. raisley funeral home, </B>387 Main. St., Prospect. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with additional visitation an hour prior to the service at the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dana Opp, the church's substitute pastor from the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at the Mt.
