Specialty grocer to open site in Cranberry Twp.

Fresh Thyme, a Midwest specialty grocer with a focus on organic products, plans to open a store in Cranberry Township in February.

CRANBERRY TWP — A new health foods store will hold several days of celebration for its grand opening in February.

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, a Midwest specialty grocer with a focus on organic products, will open at 7 a.m. Feb. 6 at 1717 Route 228 in Cranberry Township.

Cranberry was the best choice for Fresh Thyme's newest location because it is a good place to engage with a health-oriented community, according to Laura Colar, Fresh Thyme's public relations and influencer strategy associate director.

“We're always on the hunt for new areas and communities to serve,” Colar said.

“We look for places where residents are on a health journey and pinpoint those locations as ideal areas to serve,” she said. “We also intentionally boast a small format for our stores, so they are easy to shop and navigate.”

The new store will include the addition of about 125 full-time and part-time jobs to the area.

“We're looking forward to becoming ingrained in the community, employing residents, giving back to local causes and making healthier products more attainable in the neighborhoods we serve,” Colar said.

The four-day celebration will include live music, activities for children, food sampling and beer tasting.

Colar said Fresh Thyme works hard to be part of the community by giving to local charitable causes and seeking out local artisans, producers and farmers to carry its products and produce.

To show a commitment to the Cranberry community, Fresh Thyme will donate sales from its Boar's Head hot dog cart during the opening festivities to the Cranberry Public Library.

Fresh Thyme will also host a friends and family ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials from the chamber of commerce and various neighborhood associations at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 5.

Fresh Thyme also plans to donate $2,500 to the Seneca Valley School District.

Additionally, the first 250 shoppers in line for the grand opening will receive a free bag of groceries.

This will be Fresh Thyme's 76th store. It also operates locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Wisconsin and elsewhere in Pennsylvania.

Fresh Thyme's first store opened in Mount Prospect, Ill., in 2014.

Since then, Fresh Thyme has undergone rapid expansion and plans to include more than 80 stores in 2019.
