Monsour

David Monsour, 88, of Butler, died Friday morning at the VA Butler Healthcare Medical Center.

David, or Gidu (Grandfather) as most people called him, was born in West Brownsville, Washington County, on April 20, 1922, a son of the late Davis and Angela Johns Monsour.

He retired from the Processing Maintenance Department of the Butler Armco plant in 1983, where he had worked for 31 years. A multiskilled craftsman, he was known for his genuine willingness to help people with their home and auto repairs. He had even traveled hundreds of miles to assist family members with their home repairs.

Long with his wife, he founded and operated the Keystone Trailer Co. in Butler for many years, where he built and painted trailers in his weld shop and offered them for rent in Butler and surrounding counties.

A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, he had proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II.

A hunter, David also went fishing with his family and soon discovered that he wasn't that interested in fishing, but continued to do so because his children, grandchildren and nephews liked to do so; this makes a powerful statement to the character of this true gentleman. He enjoyed spending time at the pool of Armco Park with his family and he had been a member of the Butler Boat Club. From 1994 through 2008, Dave and Josephine would spend the winter months in Jupiter, Fla.

His wife, Josephine Betres Monsour preceded him in death just three weeks earlier. They married September 21, 1944 until her passing on March 29, 2010. He was also preceded by three brothers, including Nasray Monsour and two sisters, Helen Betres and Jane Piazza.

Surviving are one son, David K. Monsour of Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter, Linda Bodesheim, and her husband Charles, of Butler; a sister, Florence (Nicholas) Cheselka of Solon, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael J. (Sharon) Fabrizzi of Butler; David K. Monsour II of Jupiter, Fla., Lori (Randy) Smead of Butler and Matthew Bodesheim in Australia; four great grandchildren, Anna and Micah Fabrizzi; Courtney (David) Ricciardella and Cassandra Smead.

<B>MONSOUR</B> — Friends will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. The Rev. James W. Dolan, pastor, will officiate.Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park, where Military Honors will be provided by the Ceremonial Honors Squad of V.F.W. Post 249 of Butler and American Legion Post 778, Lyndora.David supported the school that his great-grandchildren attend. His family requests that any memorial donations be directed to St. Luke Lutheran School, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
