Bert C. Korieth, 92, of Butler went home to his Lord and Savior Tuesday surrounded by his family at the VA Butler Healthcare Medical Center.

Born Aug. 23, 1922, in Portage, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry and Anna (Korieth) Hepner.

He was employed as a Pennsylvania State police officer, where he held many positions in his 31 years of service. His duties included patrolling, traffic duty, criminal division and fire inspection. He retired in August 1977.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was later reclassified in the U.S. Air Force. He was also awarded Good Conduct Medals, two World War II Victory Medals, Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star.

He was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He was a lifetime member of the FOP Lodge 54, Butler County Law Enforcement, Victory Lodge 694, New Castle Consistery, Syria Temple, Syria Caravan 14, Shriners Luncheon Club, PIN Club, Elk Lodge 170 and the VFW Post 249. He was also a member of the Order of Moose Lodge 64 and the American Legion Post 778.

Surviving is his wife, Virginia (Young) Korieth, who he married July 10, 2004. Also surviving are his daughter Kimberly (Herbert) Scribner; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Robert) Kish and Angela Scribner; his great-grandchildren, Trai, Cole and Liliana, Dessie and Mikayla Kish and Isaiah Scribner; two nephews, Timothy S. Hepner and Dr. Bert C. Hepner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace (Pyle) Korieth, and his brother, Timothy D. Hepner.

His parting message to all those he loved and all those who loved him was: “Grieve not … nor speak of me with tears … but laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you. I loved you so …'twas Heaven here with you.”

KORIETH — Friends of Bert C. Korieth, who died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, with the Rev. James Murphy and the Rev. Gary Clise, chaplain, to officiate.Intombment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
