Man accused of hiding 82 grams of crack in toilet, drug sales

After 82 grams of suspected crack cocaine were found concealed in a home, Butler City police filed charges against a Philadelphia man Monday.

Vincent R. Pointer Jr., 29, was charged with felony drug sales and criminal use of a communication device and misdemeanors tampering with evidence and use and possession of drug paraphernalia following a July incident.

Police said Pointer misidentified himself to officers in June after a fight near West Cunningham Street. When officers discovered his identity, it was found he had several arrest warrants out of Philadelphia.

On July 3, police said they received information that Pointer was living in Butler and was suspected to be dealing drugs. Officers said he was in a bathroom when they arrived at the apartment. He was taken into custody shortly after.

“Prior to Pointer exiting the bathroom, there had been no sound of running water or a toilet flushing,” the investigating officer said. “(Officers) did locate, in the (toilet) water tank, a red and black sock containing a large spherical object ... a white chunky substance consistent with crack cocaine, encased in clear plastic baggies.”

According to the affidavit, a combined 82 grams of crack cocaine, a bag of marijuana, a cellphone, a “corner” bag of suspected crack cocaine, a plastic bag with white residue and a burnt crack pipe also were found in Pointer’s apartment.

In addition, $477 and a second cellphone were found on Pointer’s person.

When officers searched one of the cellphones, several conversations relating to the sale of crack cocaine were found.

As of Tuesday, Pointer has not yet been arrested, and a preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
