Case continued for Pittsburgh man charged with vehicle theft
EVANS CITY — On Tuesday, a preliminary hearing was continued for one of two Pittsburgh men connected to a case of stolen vehicles, a police chase and a car fire in a incident spanning two counties.
Dylan M. Kunkle, 21, will appear before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz for a preliminary hearing which has not yet scheduled.
Darin J.D. Carter, 26, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will appear Dec. 6 in Common Pleas Court.
Both were charged with felony counts of theft, possessing stolen property and criminal conspiracy after police said they stole two vehicles from Manaheim of Pittsburgh Auto Auction on May 26 in Jackson Township.
Police said the pair stole a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, valued at $26,585, and a 2016 Ford Mustang, valued at $25,585.
Police said the Cherokee Latitude was spotted July 14 by Brentwood Police, who pursued the vehicle, and later that day, found it on fire in the 2400 block of Michael Drive in Pittsburgh.
Police discovered that Kunkle and Carter had stolen another vehicle July 2, a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, valued at $11,500, from a property in Baldwin.
Police then found Carter in possession of the Mustang. Carter had bought a junked version of the car and swapped the VIN number with the stolen one.
Police said that during recorded interviews, Kunkle and Carter admitted to their offenses.
Carter additionally was charged with felony counts of conducting a chop shop and altering a VIN number, while Kunkle additionally was charged with felony counts of fleeing from police, criminal mischief, arson and reckless burning.
