Biker injured in Sunday crash ID'd as Renfrew man
BUTLER TWP — Police have identified a motorcyclist who had to be flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital with injuries in a one-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Route 8.
Kevin Schultz, 50, of Renfrew suffered a broken left leg in the accident shortly after 4 p.m. near the intersection with Ann Arbor Lane near the Northwest Bank branch, township police said.
Schultz reportedly was traveling north, apparently in back of another motorcyclist with whom he was riding, when he lost control of his bike, possibly when he struck a curb.
A Seven Fields man in a truck behind the motorcyclist said he saw Schultz go down on the cycle, which landed on him. The injured man rolled onto the side of the road. Police said he was wearing a full-face helmet.
The motorcycle popped back up on its tires, the witness said, and traveled without a rider across both southbound lanes before hitting the curb and eventually landed on the side of the road about 100 yards from where Schultz was lying.
Butler Ambulance Service and Butler Fire Department emergency medical technicians tended to Schultz before a LifeFlight helicopter landed nearby and flew him to Allegheny General Hospital. His condition was not known Monday.
