KARNS CITY — The Karns City Communities That Care coalition recognized the winner of a recent logo competition at its board meeting in late June.

The winning image the group chose was created by Karley Hiles and is a tree being cradled by a hand.

The leaves on the tree are purple and gold to reflect the colors of the school district, and the tree is a symbol of how youths are growing and branching out in many ways along life’s path while being held by a community that cares for and cherishes them.

The contest to create a recognizable image representing the group’s efforts received 19 submissions from youths in the community, with the theme of community togetherness and the strong unity that already exists in the Karns City School District.

“The board was overwhelmed with the number of submissions,” said Jeff Hogan, the group’s executive director. “Deciding on a logo from such a large pool of excellent artwork was extremely challenging due to the complexity, creativity and the meaning behind each of the images.”

The group, which formed in 2015, focuses on creating positive role models and community support to combat delinquent behavior and the use of drugs and alcohol by juveniles.
