July 27 wasn’t a particularly good day — or lucky one either — for Jessica Hope Hilliard of Butler.

It started to turn bad when law enforcement authorities happened to see her walking with two other women on Kaufman Drive near Zeigler Avenue in Butler.

County Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force, recognized Hilliard and knew she was wanted on a bench warrant.

When Hilliard tried to run, a probation officer who was with Fennell quickly ran her down, authorities said.

Her day only got worse from there.

While being arrested, her cell phone signaled an incoming text message. The sender inquired about “getting a bunny,” according to court documents.

Fennell knows that “bunny” is street slang for a bundle of heroin. A bundle is 10 stamp bags of heroin.

Her arrest that day on the bench warrant led Fennell on Monday to get a search warrant for Hilliard’s phone. The preliminary search paid immediate dividends.

The phone revealed “multiple messages to and from several individuals (on July 27) about the sale/purchase of (drugs),” documents said.

Fennell on Tuesday charged Hilliard with criminal use of a communication facility, a felony.

She now is in the county prison for a parole violation, which was the reason for the bench warrant in the first place.

That warrant, according to court records, was issued in June after Hilliard failed to appear for a parole revocation hearing in connection with a misdemeanor drug case in 2014.
