Wilmer L. Maurhoff, 88, of Sarver died Monday at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center.

Born Jan. 6, 1920, in Sarver, he was the son of Edward and Margaret Reamer Maurhoff.

Mr. Maurhoff retired in 1985 as a tool and die maker for Saxonburg Ceramics.

From 1941 to 1945 during World War II, he served with the Army's 6th Armored Division in Europe and earned a Bronze Star.

He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie McComb Shearer Gray Maurhoff, who he married Feb. 5, 1983; a son, Gary L. Maurhoff of Cabot; a daughter, Gloria (Ben) Miner of Saxonburg; two grandchildren, Deanna Miner Turner and Eric Miner; two great-grandsons, Brett and Colton Miner; two brothers, Paul Maurhoff of Natrona Heights and Milo Maurhoff of Sarver; a sister, Della Marie Sarver of Montana; seven stepchildren, Frances Waldenville of Freeport, Paul Shearer of Monroeville, Barbara Waldenville of Leechburg, John Shearer of Lower Burrell, Elsie Sackett of New Kensington, Mark Shearer of Apollo and James Shearer of Leechburg; 11 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

His first wife, Mildred Fleming Maurhoff, who he married May 12, 1946, died Aug. 25, 1979. Also preceding him in death were a sister, Alice Lassinger, and two infant brothers, including his twin.
